Selected to work on 1st satellite for USA and received a patent for finding martencitic transformation in a precipitation austenitic stainless steel, discovered solid solution of Boron at the eutectic and room temperature of 57-63% copper yellow brasses, received a USA grant for 273K to demonstrate and use an acid and pickling system without pollution in Kenworth, NJ.
Richard H. Haupt
Richard H. Haupt was Vice President, R&D, and Assistant to the President for Volco Brass & Copper Co., Kenilworth, N.J. He received his B.S. degree in Metallurgy from Penn State University in 1951. From 1951 to 1954 he was with American Smelting & Refining Co. In 1954 he joined Hunter Engineering Co., Riverside, Calif., leaving them in 1957 to join Volco Brass & Copper. His positions with Volco have included Chief Metallurgist for Electric Hydracon Co., of Altoona, Pa., Vice President and General Manager for Volco in Los Angeles, and Vice President and General Manager at Kenilworth.
